We are the data controller for your personal data processed through the Selects application and website.

What data we collect

Account data: When you create an account, we collect your email address. This is the minimum data required to administer your account, provide the service, and communicate with you about your account.

Payment data: When you purchase credits, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your card details. Stripe may collect additional information as required to process payments. See Stripe's privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.

Usage data: We collect basic usage information to operate the service, including credits used and processing history.

Content you provide: When you use Selects to analyse video files, the application extracts screenshots and audio from your videos for processing. Screenshots are stored locally on your device. Audio and image data is transmitted to third-party AI services for analysis as described below.

How we use your data

We use your data to:

  • Provide and operate the Selects service
  • Process your credit purchases
  • Send you service-related communications
  • Respond to your enquiries
  • Improve and develop our service

Our legal basis for processing is:

  • Contract: Processing necessary to provide you with the service you have signed up for
  • Legitimate interests: Service improvement and security
  • Legal obligation: Where required by law

Third-party processors

To provide the Selects service, we use the following third-party processors located in the United States:

Google (Gemini API) — Processes screenshots for visual analysis including scene detection, subject identification, and metadata extraction. Google retains this data for up to 30 days for debugging and abuse detection purposes. Google does not use this data for model training on paid API tiers. Deepgram — Processes audio for transcription. Deepgram operates with zero data retention after processing is complete. See Deepgram's privacy policy at deepgram.com/privacy.

OpenAI (Whisper) — May be used for audio transcription. See OpenAI's privacy policy at openai.com/privacy.

Stripe — Processes payments. See Stripe's privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.

International transfers

Your data is transferred to processors in the United States. These transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the UK Information Commissioner's Office.

Data retention

Account data: We retain your email address for as long as you have an active account. If you close your account, we will delete your data within 30 days, except where we need to retain it for legal or accounting purposes.

Content data: Screenshots remain on your local device under your control. Audio and image data sent to third-party processors is subject to their retention policies as described above.

Payment records: We retain records of transactions for 7 years as required for accounting and tax purposes.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Rectify inaccurate personal data
  • Erase your personal data (subject to legal retention requirements)
  • Restrict processing of your personal data
  • Data portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used format
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
